SAGE National Announces 3 Breakthrough Improvements for Expansion Across Canada

1. SAGE Introduces a New National Structure to Oversee Student Chapters

To better support our volunteers, we are introducing the new SAGE national branch structure that strengthens coordination across Canada. SAGE’s national-level will be comprised of a network of student-led committees and the board of directors. We are excited to share this next step in our journey toward a stronger and more connected organization of student chapters across the country. As our impact reaches more communities, this moment marks a new chapter filled with collaboration, empowerment, and a renewed commitment to connecting generations through meaningful service. To make this growth sustainable, we are introducing changes that give students and volunteers the guidance they need to make the biggest impact possible.

A dedicated SAGE national branch will guide operations, strategy, and resources to ensure that every student chapter has what it needs to thrive. This centralized guidance provides chapters with mentorship and tools while still allowing them to lead initiatives locally. At the same time, new student-led committees will manage key areas such as outreach, programming, partnerships, and engagement, creating clear channels for teamwork and growth. Together, these changes balance national oversight with student leadership at the campus level.

2. Student Committees

This committee-based model is about more than internal organization. The restructuring is also a pivotal moment for students to shape the future of SAGE. Serving on a committee allows students to provide input on important decisions, develop creative solutions, and influence initiatives. By participating in committees, students shape SAGE’s organizational structure and priorities based on their hands-on experience and the real needs of the seniors they are serving, all while building valuable leadership skills. Students who want to get involved in the committees are invited to contact SAGE national. This is an opportunity to contribute ideas, lead projects, and play an active role in guiding the organization’s direction, while gaining experience that extends beyond campus

This new structure also gives SAGE the ability to provide more tailored guidance to each chapter and strengthen collaboration between campuses. Chapters can now share resources, coordinate programs, and learn from one another more effectively. Whether it is a campus organizing its first senior engagement program or an established chapter planning a large-scale event, teams will have the support they need to succeed while maintaining autonomy over their initiatives.

3. A Unified Online Space for Volunteers

Alongside these organizational improvements, our new national website will serve as a central hub for information, applications, and chapter management. It will make applying for and creating new SAGE chapters more accessible, putting more control directly in the hands of volunteers. Chapter presidents will be able to share their programs and events and display important information for other student volunteers in a centralized location, as well as view what other chapters are doing. The website also offers a platform to share ideas, access resources, and celebrate achievements nationwide.

Planning for the Future

Looking ahead, SAGE has a clear but ambitious vision. We want to become a household name for supporting seniors across Canada while giving students meaningful volunteer experiences. Every act of service contributes to a larger movement that strengthens communities and nurtures empathy. Students gain experience, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the people they’re helping and their stories. SAGE aims to forge connects between the students and the seniors they’re aiding, but also between the students themselves through their collaborative efforts. By combining local leadership with national coordination and digital resources, SAGE ensures that students are empowered to plan and execute programs that create real, lasting impact on both student’s and senior’s lives.

This restructuring and the launch of the national website mark an exciting turning point for SAGE. Since its founding during the pandemic to support seniors facing loneliness and bring joy to healthcare workers, the organization has made a real difference. Now, that impact is spreading nationwide, giving students across the country the opportunity to shape SAGE’s future while continuing to make meaningful connections in their own communities. SAGE’s future is its student volunteers and their amazing efforts to better the world around them.
