SAGE (Student Association for Geriatric Empowerment) is a student-led nonprofit that connects university volunteers with seniors and healthcare workers to foster empathy, friendship, and community.
Founded in 2020 at the University of Toronto during the COVID-19 pandemic, SAGE began with virtual Companion Calls that pair volunteers with seniors for weekly phone calls. It has since grown into a Canada-wide initiative offering in-person visits, creative workshops, and educational events. Through its chapters, SAGE continues to bridge generations, reduce isolation, and empower students to make meaningful contributions to the lives of older adults.
